It is really no exaggeration for me to say that I have been a very devoted Batman fan for almost all of my life. I wasn't quite 2 years old when the Batman TV series premiered in January 1966, and from that moment on I started hanging on to whatever Batman merchandise I was given. Thanks to my ongoing Batman obsession, many of these items have stayed with me throughout my 57 years.
You might think that I am at least partly joking when I say that my life of collecting Batman has brought me enough items items to put together a Batman museum. Well, I'm not joking - I'm completely serious. For quite some time, I have thought about the fact that the Batman character has reached such a lofty place in pop culture that he deserves some sort of museum-style exhibit that traces his almost 85-year history. So I have created this virtual Batman exhibit using photos of items in my personal Batman collection.
I'm sure that there would be some people who were skeptical of such a project. They might ask, "A Batman exhibit? That sounds like nothing more than a pile of old toys that would be better suited for a yard sale than some sort of formal collection." I would ask those people to take a look at what I've put together here. Batman is a character that has truly stood the test of time, and his story is a fascinating one. And I think this virtual exhibit tells that story pretty well.
And who knows? Maybe one of these days, some museum, library or art space will give me the chance to display all of these items so that people can see them in person! But until I get such a chance, this virtual exhibit will have to do. So here we go - let's travel through decade after decade of Batman history!
